Happy Birthday, Selene! – Family Portraits

Every now and then, we do family portraits, but we try to make it more casual and less staged and try to capture the energy and smiles. And when you’re photographing of a 2 year old, there is no shortage of energy and fun! Give Selene a couple simple toys, some bubbles and let her jump on the bed and you’ve got hours of smiles! And Selene’s smile and expressions are pretty awesome and you can’t help but smile, too!!

Christine, Glen & Baby Kaia – Family Portraits

Back in 2016, you may recall our maternity photo shoot with Christine & Glen. I can’t believe it’s been about a year since that photo shoot! It’s amazing how time flies! On a recent trip, I was able to catch up with them and meet their beautiful baby girl, Kaia. I wish I could have spent more time getting to know her, but she missed her nap that day and wasn’t in the best of moods, towards the end of the shoot. But she’s still cute as can be. Who does she look like? Christine or Glen? 😛

Christine & Glen’s Bedroom Maternity Shoot

When you think of a maternity shoot, I’d imagine that most people think of the couple in a studio setting with lights or maybe somewhere out in nature, highlighting or accentuating the baby bump. And while that can be done very beautifully, for one reason or another, sometimes it just doesn’t work for some couples. So when my friends Christine and Glen told me that they were expecting a baby, Christine also told me that she wanted to a more editorially styled photo shoot that was not as traditional. She still wanted to highlight the baby bump while allowing her and Glen to express themselves, as well.

So in place of a studio, we chose a bedroom setting that felt more natural, where they could be themselves. I really liked the bedroom setting as it allowed us to keep that intimate feel.

christine & galen’s post wedding photo shoot

You may remember Christine & Galen from their backyard Seattle wedding. They are such a great couple with such a great story and never afraid to freely express themselves or their love for one another in creative ways. With Galen is in the military and currently serving overseas, he and Christine did not have a chance to do a proper engagement shoot. So instead, they opted for a little more intimate, editorially styled photo shoot in a simple hotel room.

new york city family portrait: cynthia, david & kids

When you’re a 3 year old kid, family time is fun time! You poke around, explore new things and all the while, your parents are trying to keep up with you. And you know they can’t because you were way too quick. And when your parents called your name, you didn’t hear them at all, because you were too busy exploring or too interested in that cool little acorn you found on the ground.

That or something similar to that was going through Cynthia and David’s son’s head, during this shoot. You can see in the photos, that he wasn’t exactly interested in taking some fun family portraits. But that’s alright, we captured some good ones of him, anyway.

Published: Cover of Pollstar Magazine

We are proud to let you know that one of our photos of Kina Grannis made the cover of Pollstar Magazine, a trade publication covering the worldwide concert industry. There is also an online article here. Recently, Kina has been blowing up the music industry with her latest video, “In Your Arms,” which is stop motion video featuring a gazillion (alright, we’re exaggerating, but it’s really a lot of) jelly beans. She even appeared on Ellen and has appeared in numerous other publications. You may recall that Kina is one of our favorite indy music artists and that we blogged about her about a year ago.
