Shearwater (Sailboat) Wedding, NYC – Darcy & Monty

When you’re planning a smaller, more intimate wedding, your options to create a unique experience really open up.  You don’t have to worry about transporting or accommodating hundreds of guests.  You can focus on your closest friends and family.  Darcy & Monty wanted to create a truly memorable experience for their wedding and their guests, so they decided to have their ceremony on the Shearwater, a sailboat out of the North Cove Marina.  Everyone was treated to a truly beautiful sunset ceremony with the Statue of Liberty as their background.  And of course, there were spectacular views of lower Manhattan, as well.  After the ceremony, they had a small intimate dinner at The Carlyle.

Candlewood Inn Wedding | Jacquelyn & Anthony

This summer in the New England area has been very very strange, this year.  One week it’s 90 degrees and the next it’s 70 degrees.  Mother Nature cannot seem to make up her mind.  And for Jacquelyn & Anthony’s wedding, Mother Nature decided to make it an absolutely beautiful but hot day. It was easily over 90 degrees.  It was so hot that Anthony, the groom, almost felt sick from the heat and had to take a moment to cool down.  With the rush of emotions, family and energy coupled with the heat, I can completely understand.   But he didn’t complain and took it all in stride.  In fact, the entire wedding, took it in stride.  Everyone was so happy for Jacquelyn and Anthony.  And you can see it on everyone’s faces.  Everyone was having an amazing time!

Thank you, again, to Jacquelyn & Anthony!  We had a great time!  And Congratulations!!

Bronx Zoo Wedding – Elizabeth & Andrew

Like so many of our couples, Elizabeth and Andrew met in school, but this time it was Veterinary School.  And how fitting is it that they chose to have their wedding at the Bronx Zoo?  Animals, two people in love, Beautiful location…. sounds like a perfect wedding!  It’s not everyday that you get to photograph a wedding at the Bronx Zoo, but it’s outdoor location for the ceremony is truly beautiful!  The architecture of the Zoo Center building is spectacular!  The building is the neo-classic style called Beaux-Arts.  It has a similar styling to Grand Central Station and the Palais Garnier in Paris.

And when Elizabeth, Andrew, and I met last year for their wedding consultation, we hit it off pretty quickly.  We share so many of the same interests!  Between our love of animals, science, science fiction particularly Star Trek and Star Wars!  I mean, come on, Andrew is rocking Millenium Falcon cuff links!! 😀  I knew that their wedding would be fun to photograph.  And, In many weddings, I tend to learn a little something about love and life, and in listening to their speeches and vows, I really enjoyed how they embraced each others quirks.  And I’m really happy for them.

Elizabeth, Andrew… Thank you for having us as your photographer!

Long Island Engagement Shoot – Ashley & Kris

Things have a way of working themselves out; I firmly believe that, now.  For Ashley & Kris’s engagement shoot, we scheduled the photo shoot 3 or 4 times and each time we had to postpone and reschedule.  Mother Nature, it seems, wasn’t very happy with us, those first 4 times.  And what would happen when we actually do schedule the photo shoot, and get on location…. the first location doesn’t work out, for various reasons.  So, we had to scramble to find a new location on the fly.  But like I said, things usually turn out ok, in the end.

Corinne & Anthony’s Tappan Hill Mansion Wedding

When you go to school, somewhere deep inside you hope that you’re paired up with or get to sit next to that cute guy or girl in class, right?  We’ve all been there, right?  For a lucky few, sometimes that one little hope comes true.  And not only do you get to spend time with that person, but together you get to experience a number of highs and lows together.  And eventually a strong friendship or bond is created.  It’s kind of the 1 thing many people hope for besides a degree, making good friends and maybe finding someone special.  So you probably guessed that’s how Corinne & Anthony met.   And while I won’t go into the details, but from the stories that I’ve heard, it’s great because your study buddies and partners often see you at your worst, most stressed, emotional states.  And if your study buddy still falls for you, I’d say that they’re a keeper.

As for their wedding day, besides some strong winds that side tracked some of our portraits, I’d say the day was super perfect.  Nearly everything went off without a hitch.  Everyone was super fun and happy!  And I really must say that we, the Esvy Photo & Video team, are grateful that Corinne & Anthony selected us.  We had a stupendous time!  Thank you, Corinne & Anthony!!!

UW & Seattle Design Center Wedding – Jacklyn & Ly

Seattle, in the winter, is legendary for its constant drizzle and rainy weather.  But, for Jacklyn & Ly’s wedding, Mother Nature was being nice.  The morning started off only partly cloudy and the sun actually came out for a little bit and slowly the weather became overcast as the day went on.  And the rain did not start until the early evening.  So, we were able to walk around freely, outside, and get a lot of great portraits outside on the University of Washington (UW) campus. And kudos to the bride, groom and bridal party for braving the cool temperatures.  I hope we can all agree that it was worthwhile.  And I used to live in Seattle, many years ago, but I’ve never been to the UW Library!  It’s an amazing space that feels like it has been pulled from the Harry Potter movies!

Overall, the day went super smooth, thanks to the planning of Marie, the wedding planner/coordinator.  And the evening was capped off with a small breakdancing performance by a brother-sister duo.  It was super cute!  I wish I had their dancing skills!

Congratulations to Jacklyn & Ly and thank you for having us as your wedding photographer!

DIY Los Angeles Wedding at HNYPT – Caitlyn & Daniel

What happens when 2 creative people, in this case, graphic designers, fall in love and get married?  They design their own wedding, of course!  From the overall design, to the invitations, to the seating cards, selecting the dinnerware, everything was designed by both Caitlyn and Daniel!  Nothing was left out!  Armed with their skills and a bunch of loyal friends, they were able to put together a classy wedding with hints of Bohemian and Asian accents throughout the overall design.  Daniel built the arch / wooden structure, in front of which they said their vows.  Caitlyn, even, personally designed the cake topper and baked the cake herself!  It was oh so yummy!  This wedding had a little bit of everything!  It even had their actor friends act out poems about how the couple met and fell in love.

And the cool, chic venue for their DIY wedding was HNYPT, a cool urban open space in downtown Los Angeles.

What do you think?  Did Caitlyn & Daniel pull off the DIY wedding?

Carol & Alex’s Portraits – Pasadena City Hall

The one thing you can plan for but never control in a wedding is the weather.  You can have contingency plans for rain with tents or alternate indoor location, but what if a hurricane or major storm is heading your way?  What should you do?  It’s a tough and potentially very costly decision.  Hopefully, your venues have a heart and flexibility and will allow you to move your wedding date, within reason.  Carol and Alex, unfortunately, had this exact experience.  And as a result, they had some issues with with original wedding photographer.

So months after their wedding, while I was on a trip to Los Angeles, for another wedding, I had the opportunity to brighten things up for Carol & Alex and we did a portrait sensation, wedding dress, tux and all at the Pasadena City Hall.  The City Hall was an amazing location!  Beautiful building!  The only challenge was that it was pretty busy.  The City Hall, apparently, is a very popular location for local photographers, as well.  Either way, we made the most of it and made some great photos.  What do you think?

Hannah & David’s Wedding Film – Lioncrest at the Biltmore Estate

Tucked away in western North Carolina with great of the Blue Ridge Mountains sits the Biltmore Estate, a privately owned property built by the Vanderbilts.  There, at the Lioncrest Building, Hannah and David spoke their vows and tied the knot.

This video is not our typical short 5-7 minute highlight reel.  This one is a little on the longer side, over 10 minutes, as it encompasses so much of their wonderful wedding day.
