UW & Seattle Design Center Wedding – Jacklyn & Ly

Seattle, in the winter, is legendary for its constant drizzle and rainy weather. But, for Jacklyn & Ly’s wedding, Mother Nature was being nice. The morning started off only partly cloudy and the sun actually came out for a little bit and slowly the weather became overcast as the day went on. And the rain did not start until the early evening. So, we were able to walk around freely, outside, and get a lot of great portraits outside on the University of Washington (UW) campus. And kudos to the bride, groom and bridal party for braving the cool temperatures. I hope we can all agree that it was worthwhile. And I used to live in Seattle, many years ago, but I’ve never been to the UW Library! It’s an amazing space that feels like it has been pulled from the Harry Potter movies!

Overall, the day went super smooth, thanks to the planning of Marie, the wedding planner/coordinator. And the evening was capped off with a small breakdancing performance by a brother-sister duo. It was super cute! I wish I had their dancing skills!

Christine, Glen & Baby Kaia – Family Portraits

Back in 2016, you may recall our maternity photo shoot with Christine & Glen. I can’t believe it’s been about a year since that photo shoot! It’s amazing how time flies! On a recent trip, I was able to catch up with them and meet their beautiful baby girl, Kaia. I wish I could have spent more time getting to know her, but she missed her nap that day and wasn’t in the best of moods, towards the end of the shoot. But she’s still cute as can be. Who does she look like? Christine or Glen? 😛

Seattle Engagement Shoot – Jolie & Hayden

There’s nothing better than traveling and re-connecting with old friends. And on a recent trip to Seattle I was able to do that and photograph their engagement shoot, too. We didn’t want to go with the typical Seattle locations, so we opted for a little known garden, south of downtown, called Kubota Garden. Even when I used to lived in Seattle, I never visited. So it was a double bonus for me!

It’s always great to go back to Seattle! I cannot wait for their wedding in September!

When I think about Oregon, I think about the Ducks, the Beavers, the beautiful coastline, the Trailblazers and the game “Oregon Trail,” a game, I believe, everyone played in elementary school. That game was wicked tough; for some reason, my guys always contracted some serious illness and ended up not completing the journey! According to wikipedia, there’s now an iPhone and Facebook version!

So after visiting Seattle, I had a chance to visit Portland, Oregon. Previously, I’ve only driven through there, so I wasn’t really able to see any of the local sites. I didn’t really a lot of time to go touring, but I was able to check out the Pittock Mansion and Washington Park, which has the Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Aboretum, and International Rose Test Garden. The 2nd photo is just cool landscape shot from within the park.

It’s funny when you visit a city that you used to live in and how all the memories, good and bad, coming rushing back like it was only yesterday, even though years have gone by. When I finally got to see my friends after 2-3 years, only the good memories came back and I realized how much I missed the city and my great friends. It’s such a cool town. They asked me, “Do you think you’ll move back?” And it kinda made me think… it’s tough, there are parts of me that want to go back, but I’m not sure I could.

While there, I was busy making my rounds, but I also took some time to take in the sites, again. Because Seattle is essentially made up of a series of very big hills, it might be one of the few cities in the US with such an easily accessible viewpoint of the downtown area; in this case Kerry Park on Queen Anne (Hill). On any given day, there will be tons of tourists (and locals) enjoying the spectacular view, especially in the summer. But fortunately or unfortunately for me, it was a typical, rather rainy Seattle day.
